We have renamed “Clarkia rubicunda” and all other members of the genus Clarkias we carry as “Yorkia rubicunda” and the genus “Yorkia.” Clarkia was named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition; York was the slave of Clark who was an important member of the expedition. We acknowledge the erasure of black people in environmental spaces. We wish to recognize York rather than William Clark and we urge other native plant nurseries and botanists in California to do the same. Black Lives Matter
Farewell-to-spring is an annual herb that has bright pink blooms with a dash of red at the base of the petals. It flowers in the late spring and summer. It is great for sunny, open areas and slopes.
