San Bruno Mountain Conference

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN TRANSITIONED TO BE LIVESTREAMED ONLINE DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

“If you have registered for the meeting prior to April 18 and purchased your ticket, you will be sent a link via email prior to the meeting. Anyone registering on the day of the Conference will not be able to join in. You will need to download the FREE Zoom program, available at Zoom.com, and install it prior to the meeting.

Do not worry about your camera: you will not be seen online during the Conference. On April 19, at a few minutes to 9 am, you will be able to click on the link and enjoy the entire Conference from the comfort of your own home (or wherever you log in). Be sure to have some popcorn and a good lunch on hand! - David Nelson, Chair, San Bruno Mountain Conference.”

100% of the proceeds from the $25 admission tickets will be dedicated to publishing The Natural History of the San Bruno Mountains, an upcoming book by Doug Allshouse and David Nelson

Conference attendees will learn about the fascinating ecology and history of San Bruno Mountain from a variety of speakers including ecologists, botanists, natural resource managers and local history experts.

The morning session will be devoted to presentations of scientific research done on the Mountain, including our endemic manzanitas, endangered butterflies, and rare and endangered plants.

The afternoon session will feature presentations of interest to the general hiking public, including an overview of the wildflowers commonly seen in the spring; an introduction to manzanitas, one of the iconic California plants; and a survey of the rare plants, as well as the recently re-discovered flowers that had been thought to be lost.

Furthermore, the San Mateo County Natural Resource Manager will speak about the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and its role on the Mountain. There will also be presentations by other experts on featuring the lively history of the grassroots movements that battled to save San Bruno Mountain.
